Panchathanthra Stories

Panchathantra is a collection of stories written by Vishnu Sharma, a pandit (scholar). He was appointed by a king as an instructor for teaching his foolish sons.  Sharma converted all the principles in the Vedas and Upanishads into simple short stories.

‘Panchathantra’ (the word means ‘Five Principles’) includes stories based on friendship, knowledge, confidence, sincerity and success. The stories were so simple that common people can understand the Vedas very easily.

Within a short period of time, the foolish princes turned into scholars by understanding the principles of the stories. As Aesop Fables, many characters in these stories are animals and birds. These stories are loved by all age groups all over the world.
